RYA POWERBOAT LEVEL 1 

 
This one day course is the introductory level to powerboating, which aims to provide a practical solution to boat handling and safety in powerboats. The perfect solution for anyone not too confident in their own abilities, or youngsters who may be too young (under 12) to undertake the level 2, allowing anyone to experience the joys of boating as well as attaining a Royal Yachting Association Certification. 
 
The syllabus is split between classroom theory and water-based practical tuition, covering the following topics: 
 
• Personal and boat preparation 
• Launching and returning to shore 
• Basic boat controls 
• Theory of towing 
• Local byelaws and insurance 
• Crewing and routines 
• Awareness of other water users 
• Rule of the Road 
• Basic close down procedures 
 
You will also get plenty of hands-on driving as we tutor you through skills such as: 
 
• Planing at speed 
• Picking up a mooring 
• Coming alongside 
• ‘Rule of the Road’ - International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS) 
 
Duration: 1 day 
Cost: £175 per person 
Certification: RYA Level 1 certificate.
