Rescue Boat Training

The MCA Code of Practice for Open Rescue Boats (Under 15mts)
Note: The MCA's Marine Guidance Note (MGN 466) does not apply to rescue boats carried on ships as part of their Life Saving Appliances required under SOLAS or national regulations. Please follow this link for the Rescue Boat Code Publication to see what's involved.
With the introduction of MGN 466 in 2014 all Rescue Boat Helmsmen are now required to be trained as a minimum to the following recognised standards:
MCA Elementary First Aid or equivalent
RYA Powerboat Level 2 (with 12 months relevant experience) or any other standard which is MCA approved
Basic Sea Survival
RYA Professional Practices & Responsibilities
Medical Fitness 34 Certificate
RYA Advanced or higher (as applicable)
VHF DSC Short Range Certificate
In addition to the above, all Helmsmen who may operate during the hours of darkness, should also be trained to the the RYA Advanced Power Boat Certificate level or higher, and hold a minimum of 12 months relevant experience
Rescue Centres and Independent lifeboat crews should also ensure that crew members also hold an approved MCA Elementary First Aid Certificate, or equivalent before being able to serve aboard a Rescue Boat.

Here at Boatability we really look forward to running these type of courses because like you we have to be able to operate to the highest level of boating expertise, which certainly keeps us on our toes. An example of our customers to date, include the Marine Management Organisation, Fire & Rescue Servcie, foreign militaries and UK government special forces. And with transportable MCA Coded vessels and PWCs we can cater for most training needs around the UK too!
Whether you require all of the training or if it's simply a particular element, for example, the Powerboat Level, 2, Sea Survival training, First Aid or the RYA's online PPR course we can help.

Please note that to attend the RYA Advanced Powerboat course as a prerequisite you must hold and be in date for First Aid and hold a VHF Short Range Certificate (DSC) or higher.
